Lights Out Dancing: Concept Photo

One can only imagine the actual feeling of getting a flat tire...let alone in the middle of the night right after you bought a new vehicle and picked up one of the newest member of your band...These guys definitely can relate!!!

The night they picked up Jordan Wark from the airport, just shortly after buying heir new van got a flat tire in the middle of the night on the highway.

Then we strummed upon the idea of making their promo shoot based on their first day together. :)

Lights:
it varies but on the top image two 580 EX II Speedlights
1-on the lead singer (closest person to me) light to upper right-bare
2-on the roup of them by the van to camera far right and above-bare

All The Right Movesfli-The Monster I've Become

Super fun local band, I love these guys they always are so fun to photograph and collaborate ideas with. To top it off they have some killer tunes as well! They have a CD that comes out this Summer called "The Monster In Me" featuring 6 NEW songs and was produced by Jordan Schmidt.

The CD will be released to I-Tunes on June 10th and the will be doing short tour before having a local CD Release party on June 20th at Station 4 in Minneapolis MN.

The photo shoot was truly a flash of lightening to cross my brain because the guys only gave me one week to come up with come up with a collaborative concept to portray with lighting and still make them look mature and fun.

With only one week to work with we had a few ideas and then at the last minute changed ideas and quickly chose a location...which happened to be Braden's house. Right in his teeny tiny living room. I maybe had 13 by 12 feet to work with, (Literally what u see in the picture was the space I had) but the guys were awesome and before I had gotten there they had the room cleaned up and shades covered and all. I never asked them to do anything and it wasn't all necessary but they rocked it out to help the shoot go smoothly and for that I am greatly appreciative!

Once the shoot began we decided we didn't like the couch design so we placed gray sheets over the couch and wanted super bright lighting that popped yet keeping the theme of watching television. So I had one light barely behind and to each end of the couch with 30 and 40 grids on them and a large softbox to light them from the front right above the camera.

Keep rocking it ATRM!! :) - www.myspace.com/alltherightmoves

Lights Out Dancing-Promos

!!!LIGHTS OUT DANCING!!!

It took a whole crap ton of time and collaboration between the band and myself to come up with a creative concept and the time paid off. We started off with roughly 6 ideas and kept mixing and matching them all until we came up with this. Mike and I then spent a day out checking out and looking for locations to photograph and oddly enough we ended up doing this shoot right in the front yard of Scott's parents house.

I used 3 lights.

1- Speed-light to the far left
1-Alien B 800 to far right
1-Alien B 1600 with white reflective umbrella-to camera rear and from above at a 15 degree angle to my subjects left.

We began this shoot a little earlier in the day so that by the time we were finishing the individual images it wouldn't be a black sky. So in order to make the skies almost look like it was the same time of day I did some tweaking in photo-shop so they would have consistency.

Lights Out Dancing is a Powerpop/Pop rock group out of the suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota. This month they just released a new album called "Ever The Optimist". Currently they are touring around the east coast to help promote the amazing new album. If you have a second please check it out at www.myspace.com/lightsoutdancing
